After 18 years, I moved back to my  motherland, the Philippines, where I landed the job of Make-up Artist
and Brand Manager of  The Body Shop, Colourings (later re-launched as The Body Shop Makeup). The
friendships I had made and the experiences learned in that role are still what I draw from to this date. It wasn’
t all fun, but it certainly was extremely valuable to my personal and professional growth. I look back on those
4-5 years with The Body Shop team with so much fondness.
I'm Merry Carlos-Baguio, and I'm a
professional Makeup Artist/Makeup
Trainer. I also do Hair Styling, and have
worked in TV, Fashion and Beauty for
almost 10 years.
I love doing lifestyle events and working with clients who need to
update their makeup wardrobe, as well as weddings, events and
live demos. My work has been featured and published in
Cosmopolitan Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Seventeen,
Preview Magazine (the best selling Fashion magazine in the
Philippines), MTV Ink, The Tribune, The Philippine Star, and
many more.
I've worked in London UK, where I lived
and worked for almost 20 years, the
Philippines, and am currently based in
Toronto Canada where I enjoy freelancing
and being a makeup artist for some of
Rogers TV shows.
I love being part of creative shoots and being involved in making
someone’s art and vision come to life. My work is so much fun,
but more than that, it’s extremely rewarding. I’ve been a make-up
artist for more than ten years now and have met so many
beautiful  people along the way! To be a part of helping someone
find confidence in oneself again, or simply to make someone feel
extra “pretty” and put a big smile on their face, is truly amazing.
My Background
I never planned on being a make-up artist
although I had always been into art and
design in school. (In fact my background is
in Business Marketing!) It all started back in
college and university, when I was a
working student at The Body Shop, London
UK. My manager put me in charge of the
Brand’s make-up line in the store, and
thereafter, I received valuable training from
the head quarter’s school in Great Titchfield
Street, where I met The Body Shop’s
International Make-up Artist and
Consultant, Chase Aston. He’s done as
many as 57  fabulous covers for Cosmo
magazine and numerous covers and
editorials for Vogue and Elle among others –
not to mention his work with top celebrities
and fashion models like Kate Moss, Claudia
Schiffer, Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz.
He taught me how to have fun with make-up (after all, you can simply wash it off at the end of the day!) and
showed me the secret of great looking make-up: “Blend, blend blend!”  Check out the article on my mentor
and me, in Seventeen magazine’s ‘There’s Something about Merry’ by Maya Calica.
During my last couple of years in the Philippines, I made the transition of being Brand and Make-up
Consultant for TBS to that of Rustans’ Essenses (a beauty hub with a focus on well being and Spa treatments)
Cosmetics and fragrances. (I’ll admit, the thought of going from a single international brand to  multiple
international renowned brands at first, terrified me. But the move proved to be just what I’d needed after all
the “training” I had received at TBS).
Brands such as: NARS, Laura Mercier, T. Le Clerc, Paula Dorf and Urban Decay, introduced me to new
beauty tips, make-up skills and wardrobes. All essential to what my career would later lead up to in my
passion for sharing my knowledge and skills, as a Make-up Trainer and freelance make-up Artist.
I now live in Toronto, Canada with my husband and
adorable little Noelle Alexandra. I’m still loving my
job but at the same time, still introducing myself to
new clients and business contacts in the Beauty
industry. So, I hope you can join me in my journey
and drop me a few comments, suggestions and even a
Testimony like those sent in by friends I’ve had the
joy of meeting and working with in the past.
I’ll leave you with my fave saying, “If you feel good,
you look good. And if you look good, you feel great!”
